mutts to the rescue
Switzerland may have the St Bernard for finding people trapped under snow, but now Japan is doing its own bit to get dogs working by training up mini dachshunds to help rescue people following a devastating earthquake. An army of 2,000 are on standby near major fault lines across the country.
Wearing a specially designed Quake Jacket, the dogs will be sent into collapsed buildings to sniff out people trapped under debris. After finding someone, the daring dachs will dispense vital life-saving provisions before raising the alarm and getting help from someone with a bulldozer.
The Quake Jacket is equipped with life-saving items such as a bottle of water, a biscuit and a Hello Kitty pencil case....
Ready for action, though he doesn't look too happy about it....
"Please, someone get me out of this ridiculous outfit. It's embarrassing."

Nice outfit BTW, complete with orange toggles and red booties. The dog looks like a bitch though (ha).
