who needs curtains?
"They're a pain in the neck, all that pulling across and drawing and tying up, and then having to wash them once a year, it's such a drag, and they fade don't they, you spend all that money on them and then the sun goes and shines on them and they lose all their colour, it's such a waste, and they're always gathering dust and getting things stuck to them, and then there's the cat which treats them like some kind of toy, always scratching on them she is, so then they become all tatty, and sometimes they come out of their hooks at the top so you have to put them back in the holes and that's no easy task what with my bad back and arthritic hip, so I tell my husband to get on the chair to fix them back up but he says he can't because he's watching the baseball so they're just hanging off and they look awful like that and......"
This was part of a rant I overheard from an oba-san in a coffee shop recently. And then on the way home, I saw something that might have appealed to her. It's simple. She just needs to build a wall instead of having curtains. I mean, who needs curtains when you can have a nice concrete wall instead?
Fed up with curtains? Build a wall instead.
Real cement. Not a single piece of soft curtain material in sight.
