size sometimes matters

Before American John came to live in Japan, he made some preparations over the Internet. He bought a car and found a flat.

On the website, the car looked roomy, with enough room for his wife and two children. Upon arriving here and seeing his new car, he found that there wasn't even enough room for him.

For American John, size matters.

As for the entrance to the flat, well, on the web advert they'd placed a little oba-san by the door so of course it looked enormous.

But imagine American John's surprise when he entered his flat for the first time, smashing his face on the wall above the door, dislocating his jaw, lacerating his face and repositioning his nose.

The scene of the face-smashing incident.

I'm lost for words. Is that door real?

The guy who replaced me when I left my teaching job in Japan was 200+ cm tall. I'm sure every door looked like this one to him.
